How do I prepare for the Nust Entrance test?

This is the most asked questions from students. They usually asked which books to use for entry test preparation or whether they should or should not join the academy.
Let me tell you about my personal experience and my friends who are my class fellows.
For NUST Entry Test, I just go through the whole textbooks and no other additional books. I never joined an academy for anything else. I think what is important is only your self-study and keenness to it. As I am currently a student of NUST so I have many friends there. Most of them are of the opinion that never ever join an academy. It's just a waste of time. Self Study is more important than anything else and most of them are selected in NUST just because of their self-study. One of my class fellow who has around 150 marks in NET(out of 200) never join an academy. He just read the textbooks and probably some other very relevant books very close to the subject may also help.
So if you want to gain high marks in NET around 130–150 concentrate more on self-study. Don’t rely much on the academy. Some of the Math Chapters are very important
1st Year: chapter 6,7,8,9,10 and 12
2nd Year: chapter 4,6,7
Also, take some help from entry test books to test your self-study.
Note: This description is only for NUST Preparation
Hope this was helpful.

How do I prepare for the Nust Entrance test?

Hey,
I got 129 marks in NET - 1 and 143 in NET 2. I’ll basically highlight some things which you can do to get the top scores in that test.
  • Attempt as many MCQs as possible. If you have a KIPs academy nearby then ask them to give you their MCQs book, I think it costs around Rs 3000 and covers nearly everything with a solution.
  • If you are in Rawalpindi, then you can also go for Global Educational Academy where I went for NET 1. It is about techniques to solve the MCQs in the limited amount of time, nothing else. You already would have the concept, you just need workarounds and manipulation of formulas to make it work for you.
I’ll highlight some important topics here from each subject:
Maths HSSC 1 and HSSC 2
Number Systems - Complex Numbers and Demoivre’s Theorem
Sets - Functions and Aristotelian Logics
Matrices - Cramer's Rule, Determinants and Matrix Inversion Methods.
Quadratic Equations - Roots of Unity, Roots of An Equation, Quadratic Formula.
Sequences and Series [Very Important] - Arithmetic, Geometric and Harmonic Mean and Series
Permutation - Probability is important, Also have a look at formulas of Combinations.
Trigonometry - All chapters important. No need to revise proofs, only use formulas. Must know Domain and ranges as well as periodic function conditions.
Functions and Limits - Must know L'Hospital Rule and read the first 8 pages. Continuous and Discontinuous functions and their conditions.
Differentiation, Integration and Conic Section are extremely important chapters. People don’t like Integration or Conic Section but you must do one of these, it is extremely important in terms of entry test point of view. In NET 2, most of the MCQs from Conic Section came from its first page.
Analytic Geometry - Slope Point Form and Two Point Form.
Vectors - You can skip this, if you want. Only 1 or 2 MCQs will come from here.
Physics HSSC 1 and 2
Measurements - Precision, Accuracy, Homogeneity of Equations
Vectors - Scalar Product, Dot Product, Equilibrium
Motion and Force - Elastic Motion, Projectile Motion
Work and Energy - Formulas of Power, Absolute Potential Energy and Escape Velocity, Conservative Forces
Circular Motion - Rotational Kinetic Energy, Velocity formulas for Disc, Hoop and Sphere, Artificial Gravity, Angular Momentum, Centripetal Force.
Fluid Dynamics - Stokes Law, Equation of Continuity, Bernoulli Equation
Oscillations - Force in a Stretched Spring, Simple Pendulum, Uniform Circular Motion.
Waves - Doppler Effect, Frequency formulas.
Physical Optics and Optical Instruments - Formulas for slits in terms of refraction and diffraction, Formulas for Simple, Compound Microscope and Telescope.
Heat and Thermodynamics - Isochoric process, isobaric process, carnot theorem. Laws of Thermodynamics and Entropy
Electrostatics to Alternating Current -Capacitors, Electric Flux, Electromotive Force, Magnetic Force, Magnetism due to Solenoid, Mutual Induction, Self Induction, Alternating current Generator, Transformer, AC through Inductor and Capacitor. RLC Circuits, Impedance.
Physics of Solids - Elastic Modulus, Superconductors, Hysteresis Loop, Ferromagnetic Substances, Curie Temperature.
Electronics - Transistor and p-n junctions
Dawn of Modern Physics - Quantum theory, theory of relativity, uncertainty principle,
Atomic Spectra - LASER
Nuclear Physics - Isotopes, Radiograph, Basic Forces of Nature, Fusion and Fission Reactions.
Chemistry HSSC 1 and HSSC 2
You have to study Punjab Textbook Board books for the Chemistry Section. There are some topics which are not present in the FBISE prescribed books especially in the Inorganic section.
Skip Biochemistry, Industrial and Environmental. Only do some topics such as NMR and Spectroscopy in Analytical. Focus more on the first year topics especially because you may need to revise them more.
English,
There is no short term solution to english other than reading a lot of newspapers such as Al-Jazeera or the Washington Post and novels.
Intelligence.
Any intelligence book which has sequences and Coding questions as well as some other relevant questions related to verbal intelligence questions.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
Edit - Your scores aren’t disappointing as many other people over here are saying. You just need to attend an academy and prepare a proper study schedule to ace the test. It is not rocket science but something which requires time and effort which I am sure you will be able to do. I attended the academy during NET 1 which was the reason for me to get these marks Alhamdulillah.
I am sure you will get much more In Shaa Allah.

How to calculate NUST AGGREGATE:

NUST University gives major importance to its NET test while calculating merit for undergraduate admission.

Example:

If a students scored following marks in FSC, Matic and NET test than He / she can calculate aggregate as follow;

Marks obtained in NET Test: 135                NET Total Marks: 200
Marks Obtained in HSSS or A levels: 870   Total HSSC Marks: 1100
Marks obtained in Matric or O level: 920  Total Matric Marks: 1100

NUST Consider 75% NET test marks, so

NUST Entry Test Aggregate = Marks obtained in NUST test/NET Total marks x 75
= 135/200 x 75
NUST Entry Test Aggregate= 50.625

NUST Consider 15% HSSC marks, so

HSSC/A level Aggregate= Marks obtained in HSSC or A level/ Total HSSC marks x 15
                                           = 870/1100 x 15
HSSC/A level Aggregate= 11.8636

NUST consider 10% Matric marks

Matric Aggregate= marks obtained in Matric/Total matric marks x 10
                                = 920/1100 x 10
Matric Aggregate= 8.3636

How to Calculate merit position

Total Aggregate/ Merit = NET aggregate + HSSC aggregate + Matric aggregate
 =50.62 + 11.8636 + 8.3636

Total Aggregate/ Merit=70.8522

NUST Merit Calculation for Undergraduate Admissions:

NUSt entry test75%
HSSC/FSC/A level/DAE/Fscpart-I15%
Matric/ O level10 %
